Somewhere along the way, I accidentally built a business around crocheting clothes for porch geese.

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure how that happened.

Porch geese were a thing when I was a kid, and then, like so many things from the past, they started making a comeback. I didn't even realize they were becoming popular again until they started showing up in my Facebook feed.

And then I had an idea.

What if I crocheted an outfit for one?

The very first goose outfit I ever made was a frog. From there, I started coming up with more ideas, making more outfits, and sharing them with other people.

And, of course, I needed more geese.

Then more geese.

And somehow, I now have a gaggle of them. I'm not entirely sure how many there are anymore. It may have gotten a little out of hand.

And that's how Silly Goose Crochet Patterns began.

More Than Just Goose Clothes

I don't make ordinary crochet patterns.

I make outfits for porch geese, but the goal is never just to make something that fits.

I love taking an idea, a holiday, something nostalgic, an everyday object, or something completely ridiculous and figuring out how to turn it into an entire outfit for a goose.

I want each design to have personality. I want people to look at a goose and immediately understand what it's supposed to be. Most importantly, I want it to make people smile.

That's what I love about designing these outfits. A porch goose is essentially a blank canvas, and there are so many possibilities when you start thinking about what it could become.

Every outfit starts with an idea, and then I get to figure out how to bring that idea to life with yarn.

Sometimes the ideas are cute.

Sometimes they're clever.

And sometimes they're completely ridiculous.

Those might be my favourites.

Where My Love of Crochet Began

My love of fibre arts started when I was very young. My Omi taught me how to crochet, although I eventually forgot most of what I had learned.

I've always been drawn to making things. Over the years I've knitted, made latch hook rugs, cross stitched, and tried all sorts of different fibre arts.

I taught myself how to knit when I was in college because I wanted a knitted poncho. Once I started looking for things I wanted to make, I discovered that many of the projects I loved were actually crocheted instead of knitted.

So I taught myself how to crochet again.

YouTube videos and online tutorials became my teachers, and what started as wanting to make a few specific projects quickly turned into a full-blown passion and, admittedly, a bit of an obsession.

I love to crochet everything and anything.

Fidget toys, blankets, plushies, bags, clothes, and pretty much anything else I can convince myself should be made out of yarn.

Why Geese?

I live in Northern Ontario, Canada, where winter is long, cold, and sometimes feels like it is never going to end.

When I discovered porch geese during one of those long winters, they brought a little bit of fun into a season that can sometimes be hard to get through.

There was something about dressing up a silly lawn goose that made everything feel a little more cheerful.

And once I started creating outfits, I realized I wasn't the only person who thought it was fun.

That's when the idea grew from something I was making into something I could share with other people.

Today, I create crochet patterns for people who want to give their porch goose a personality of its own.

Some are seasonal. Some are nostalgic. Some are inspired by things we all know and love. And some are ideas that probably should never have been put on a goose in the first place.

But I love every single one.

And Then There's Me

Outside of Silly Goose Crochet Patterns, I'm an extremely proud mom to a son who just turned 13 and have an incredibly supportive other half. Our household also includes a couple of dogs, some chickens, and a cat who is, in my completely unbiased opinion, kind of mean.

I'm also pretty good at baking, although there is a pretty good chance that if I'm in the kitchen, I'll find a way to think about crochet at some point.

Creating has always been a huge part of who I am. Whether I'm crocheting, baking, or trying to figure out how to turn my latest ridiculous idea into a goose outfit, I love making things.

And I love that something I make can make someone else smile.
